WLG Welcomes Several New Practice Group Leaders


World Law Group is pleased to announce several new practice group leaders over the past couple of months.

Ted Augustinos, Partner at Locke Lord in its Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A. office joins WLG’s Privacy and Data Protection Group as a co-chair for the Americas. Ted advises clients in various industries on privacy and data protection, cybersecurity compliance and incident preparedness, and breach response. Ted is a member of the Steering Committee of Locke Lord’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Group, which is recognized in the 2016 US Legal 500 and the 2016 Chambers & Partners Global Guide, and leader of its Incident Response Team. He is a Certified Information Privacy Professional, accredited by the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Also joining the Privacy and Data Protection leadership team is Hitoshi Sakai of City-Yuwa Partners in Japan. Hitoshi frequently represents foreign clients on corporate acquisition, investment and litigation in Japan. He also represents Japanese clients on overseas investment and cross-border litigation. With the understanding of local practice and Japanese law as a Bengoshi qualified in Japan, combined with his high-level negotiation skill in English and flexibility in approach, he provides clients with strategic advice and practical solution that overcomes cultural differences and barriers. Hitoshi is admitted to practice in Japan and New York.

Andre Maniam, Partner and Head of WongPartnership’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group joins WLG’s Litigation, Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Group as co-chair for the Asia-Pacific Region. His main areas of practice involve litigation and arbitration across a wide range of matters including commercial and corporate disputes, cross-border trade and insolvency, and construction. In addition to an active court practice, Andre acts as counsel in arbitrations under the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and UNCITRAL rules, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations. He is on the Panel of Arbitrators of the SIAC and the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA), and is also one of the referees under the Industrial Relations Act of Singapore.

Scott Yu of Zhong Lun Law Firm, WLG's member firm for China, joins the Antitrust & Competition Group as co-chair. Scott's practice focuses on cross-border M&A transactions, anti-trust, FDI and corporate matters. Scott has extensive experience in advising foreign investors across various industries and sectors on corporate law and competition issues in their investments and operations in China. 

Last, but certainly not least, WLG welcomes Suganthi Singam of Shearn Delamore & Co. in Malaysia as a co-chair for the Human Resources Law Group. Suganthi heads Shearn Dealamore & Co.’s Immigration practice, dealing with applications for employment passes and professional visit passes. She also offers advisory services such as reviewing employment agreements, contracts and policies, training management on dealing with poor performers and advising on retention of key management. Suganthi has represented employers on the full sphere of employment-related disputes and conducted hearings in all levels of courts ranging from the Labor Court to the Court of Appeal to the Federal Court.
