Customs & International Trade Advice from WLG Members Critical for Drinker Biddle & Reath Client
In late 2009 and early 2010, the Customs and International Trade Group of Drinker Biddle & Reath, LLP managed a large, global project for one of its U.S. clients, a multinational communications and consumer electronics company. With expert customs and international trade advice and assistance from World Law Group Members in Australia (Minter Ellison), Brazil (TozziniFreire), Israel (Herzog Fox & Neeman, Malaysia (Shearn Delamore & Co), Taiwan (Formosa Transnational) and Turkey (Herguner, Bilgen & Oseke), DBR was able to pull together detailed advice for the client regarding the country of origin marking requirements applicable to its products, parts and components for many of the global markets into which the company imports its goods, whether for sale, distribution, or further production. As improper or incomplete country of origin marking on imported goods can result in significant customs fine and penalties, and in some instances even criminal charges, the ability to quickly and effectively pull together the necessary advice was critical for both DBR and its client.
