Published on Apr 29, 2025

Eduardo Angel and Alicia Henríquez, attorneys in El Salvador, experts in Labor Law, share the following news:

The 25th of April, President Nayib Bukele published on social media that a proposal has been submitted to the National Minimum Wage Council to increase the minimum wage by TWELVE PERCENT (12%) for the Maquila, Industry, Agro and Commerce and Services sectors, effective June 2025.

The National Minimum Wage Council is an entity under the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare. It is composed of representatives of the public interest appointed by the Executive Branch, as well as representatives of workers and of the employers. Among its functions is the preparation and periodic submission of draft decrees to the Executive Branch, specifically to the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, for the establishment of minimum wages. If the Executive Branch approves the corresponding project, it will issue the decree and publish it in the Official Gazette, and it will become effective eight days after its publication.
