Guyer & Regules Strengthens its Leadership in Uruguay With Three New Partners

Published on Jun 30, 2026

Guyer & Regules has announced the promotion of Emilia Cadenas, Marcelo Marchetti and Javier Napoleone to the partnership, reinforcing the Firm's bench strength in three of the most active practice areas in the Uruguayan market: corporate and M&A, taxation, and banking and finance.
The three new partners share a common profile: solid academic credentials earned abroad, hands-on experience at leading international firms, and consistent recognition from the principal legal directories. Their promotion reflects both the trajectory each has built and the Firm's confidence in the next generation of its leadership.
A word from the Managing Partner
According to Nicolás Piaggio, Managing Partner of Guyer & Regules: "Welcoming Emilia, Marcelo and Javier to the partnership is a milestone we value deeply. Each of them has shown a rare special blend of technical depth, dedication to clients, generosity toward the team and a genuine sense of service. Their promotion is a recognition of what they have achieved individually, but it also speaks to the strength and the long-term vision of the Firm."

Emilia Cadenas — Corporate Law and M&A
Emilia Cadenas focuses her practice on corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and complex domestic and cross-border transactions. She holds an LL.M. from Harvard Law School and is admitted to practice in both New York and Uruguay, having passed the New York Bar Exam. Earlier in her career she spent time at Skadden Arps in New York, and she has been involved in a number of the most relevant deals in the local market. Chambers Latin America has listed her as an "Associate to Watch" in Corporate/M&A in Uruguay.
Marcelo Marchetti — Tax
Marcelo Marchetti devotes his practice entirely to the Firm's Tax Department. He advises both Uruguay-based companies and businesses operating from abroad on local and cross-border matters, and counsels high-net-worth individuals, with significant experience in tax litigation as well.
His academic background includes a Master's degree in Taxation and a specialization in International Tax Law from Universidad de Montevideo, along with diplomas in American and Comparative Law from the Southwestern Institute for International and Comparative Law in Dallas, Texas, and in Taxation and Technology from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Universidad de la República. He also holds the title of Profesor Adscripto at the Faculty of Law of Universidad de la República. He sits on the Board of the Uruguayan Institute of Tax Studies and is a member of the International Fiscal Association. He is currently ranked by Chambers Latin America as an "Associate to Watch," by Legal 500 as a "Leading Associate," and by International Tax Review as a "Rising Star."
Javier Napoleone — Banking & Finance, Infrastructure and Energy
Javier Napoleone works in the Firm's Banking and Finance practice, with a particular focus on the financing and development of infrastructure and energy projects, as well as mergers and acquisitions on both the local and international fronts. He earned his LL.M. from Columbia Law School, where he was named a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and worked at Shearman & Sterling LLP (now A&O Shearman) in New York. Chambers Latin America recognizes him as an "Associate to Watch" in Projects & Energy, and Legal 500 distinguishes him as a "Leading Associate" in the same area.
With these appointments, Guyer & Regules reaffirms its commitment to professional excellence and to the ongoing development of its team in Uruguay.
