Mason Hayes & Curran
New EMEA Co-Chair, Energy & Infrastructure Group
What aspects of your practice at Mason Hayes & Curran do you believe will be most valuable in your role as EMEA Co-Chair of the Energy & Infrastructure Group?
I think my energy and utility practice will provide some perspectives that I can share, and also provide a basis to learn from member firms. In particular, power generation and electricity markets internationally face similar challenges, with different jurisdictions taking very different approaches. I am also very interested in how the challenges of infrastructure deficit are being tackled, and I look forward to fruitful discussions on this.
From your perspective, what cross-border trends are having the greatest impact on energy and infrastructure clients right now?
I would say supply chain constraints in renewables and thermal generation, lack of investment in nuclear in certain jurisdictions, and creaking grid infrastructure, combined with vaulting demand for power for data centers – an exciting mix!
How does being part of World Law Group, and specifically leading the Energy & Infrastructure Group, support the work you do for clients?
It’s a great forum to discuss issues, learn from colleagues, develop practice initiatives, and ultimately win business collaboratively.
Outside of work, what’s something you enjoy that your WLG colleagues might not know about you?
I have many varied interests far away from the law…collecting Incunabulae, and vinyl classical recordings, especially 1950s on Vox, Decca, HMV, and Telefunken. This is a habit cultivated over many years in the great Harold Moore’s shop on Great Marlborough Street in London, before its lamented demise. I also enjoy attempting and failing to learn Georgian to the amusement of my Georgian wife, and applying the same zeal and skill to learning Roma...bachtalo!
