Panama: The Use of Electronic Signature Reaches the Insurance Business

In recent days, the Insurance Superintendency of Panama approved Rule No. 02 of 2022, which regulates the use of electronic signatures in the documentation related to the insurance sector. This legislation came into effect on July 20, 2022.

The main objective of this Rule is to authorize the use of the electronic signature, whether simple, qualified, and/or digitalized, in documents such as policies, bonds, and other forms, in accordance with the provisions of local legislation that regulates this matter.

The National Directorate of Electronic Signatures of the Public Registry will be the entity in charge of issuing electronic certificates for users interested in requesting their qualified electronic signature, in accordance with the requirements established by said entity.
