Setterwalls have on behalf Wallenius Lines - active in the global shipping industry and specifically the international car and Ro-Ro segment – contacted not less than nine WLG firms in relation to competition law advice in connection with the establishment of the joint venture “AlfaWall Oceanbird” owned together with Alfa Laval, a Swedish listed company focusing on Marine, Energy, and Food industries. It was concluded that the joint venture is subject to merger notifications in inter alia Turkey and Poland handled by Hergüner Bilgen Özeke and Sołtysiński Kawecki & Szlęzak, respectively.
The joint venture will supply innovative wind propulsion solutions for cargo vessels and other ship types. The first installation will be implemented on a transatlantic car carrier with a capacity of 7,000 cars, and with an average speed of 10 knots, it will cut emissions by up to 90 percent compared to today’s most energy-efficient vessels, thereby supporting the maritime industry’s shift towards zero-emission shipping.
